In brief
- A 4G GPS sends its position over the mobile network: it depends on coverage where you are.
- The Bixar Phoenix includes connectivity in France and the European Union, for both editions.
- Outside the European Union, write to bixar@bixar.co to find out about coverage at your destination.
- Charge the device, choose the tracking mode and keep contact details on the collar.
A 4G GPS sends its position over the mobile network. So when travelling, the question isn’t “does the GPS work?” but “is there a network, and does my connectivity cover it?”.
What the Bixar Phoenix covers
Both editions of the Bixar Phoenix 4G GPS include connectivity in France and the European Union. Outside the European Union, write to bixar@bixar.co to find out about coverage at your destination before you leave: we don’t publish a list of countries until it has been confirmed. To understand what is included in each edition, see Dog GPS without a subscription: what it means.
What no 4G GPS can do
It can’t transmit where there is no mobile network, which can happen in some mountain, forest or rural areas. The position then doesn’t come through immediately.

How often it sends depends on the mode chosen: the closer together the positions, the faster the battery drops. See a dog GPS’s battery life.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a special option in the European Union? No: the European Union is included for both editions.
And outside the European Union? Contact bixar@bixar.co before you leave.
Does the GPS replace identification? No: a medallion or a microchip identifies the animal; the GPS locates it. See QR medallion, AirTag or GPS: which to choose? and, if your animal goes missing, the lost dog checklist. The Bixar medallion lets the person who finds it reach you.
