In brief
- The GPS tells you where your pet is, live.
- The medallion lets the person who found it reach you.
- The medallion still works when the GPS needs recharging or is out of network range.
- Both are managed in the same Bixar app.
The GPS and the medallion are often presented as two competing options. In reality, they are two answers to two different moments of a disappearance.
The GPS helps you find your pet.
The medallion helps the person who found it find you.
Two possible outcomes
When a pet goes missing, either you find it by following its position, or someone finds it before you do. The GPS serves the first case, the medallion the second.
| Criterion | 4G GPS alone | Medallion alone | Both |

| A neighbour finds it before you | No | Yes | Yes |
| The GPS battery is flat | No | Yes | Yes |

Yes YesPartial PartialNo NoPartial: the last known position remains displayed, with the time of the last communication.
The medallion, the GPS’s safety net
A GPS needs battery and network coverage. The medallion needs neither: it can be read as long as it is on the collar. If the GPS battery is flat, the person who finds your pet can still call you.
