Dog activity: understanding Bixar’s indicators

Bixar mainly compares your pet with itself. Here is where each indicator comes from, what is measured and what is estimated, and how its usual range is built.

In brief

  1. The steps and walks recorded by the GPS collar feed the indicators: nothing to enter.
  2. Active minutes: measured by the sensor. Steps and calories: estimated. Distance: calculated from GPS positions.
  3. Its usual range is calculated over the last 28 days, from 7 complete days.
  4. A period with no data is not counted as inactivity.

Bixar does not just give you figures: above all, it compares your pet with itself. To read these indicators correctly, you need to know where each one comes from.

Three principles
  • Estimated activityMeasurements from the tracker and the pet’s profile.
  • Compared with itselfBixar mainly compares the pet with its own habits.
  • Reliable dataOnly complete days are used as a baseline.

Measured by its collar

The steps and walks recorded by the Bixar Phoenix 4G GPS collar feed the indicators. Nothing to enter: go out, and Bixar keeps count. And its active days earn Bixar credits.

What is measured, what is estimated

The indicators, and where they come from
CriterionSourceWhat it is
Active minutesSensorThe time during which significant activity was recorded by the tracker.
StepsEstimateThe movements that the tracker treats as steps.
DistanceGPSEstimated from the recorded positions; accuracy varies with GPS quality and how often positions are taken.
CaloriesEstimateCalculated from the information about your pet and its activity. This is not a direct measurement.

The estimates are based on your pet’s profile: its species, its weight and whether it is neutered, as entered in the app.

Its usual range

Rather than comparing your pet with a general average, Bixar gradually builds its usual range from its sufficiently complete days.

Its usual range, specific to your pet
  • Last 28 daysThe period over which it is calculated.
  • From 7 complete daysBefore that, Bixar is learning its rhythm.
  • The middle 60%One exceptional day does not distort it.
  • At the same time of dayDuring the day, the comparison is made with previous days at the same time.

In the app

The Activity screen: active time for the month and its weekly breakdown. Real screen, sample data.

The app also offers feeding and activity guidelines suited to your pet.
